A Q&A with The Tickler
4th May 2022
Following on from the great success of Pinter Milan last week, we sat down with MOTM-winner Aidan "The Tickler" Hickman for an exclusive interview in the comfort of his own home. What's clear is that the Pinter front-man is not just a gracious host but his unparalleled passion for the pins is truly palpable. For any youngsters out there, please excuse the obscenities.
1. We're coming off the back of a huge win for Pinter - how is the team feeling and what are your thoughts going into the big 4-frame season finale in May?
"Definitely a good couple of points picked up last week but we're still well behind. We don't expect anything from the finale but we will turn up, play our game and hope to cause some problems. Riders are still the favourites, it'd be a massive f**k up on their part to lose from here."
2. The Pinter starting lineup has remained very consistent throughout the season - what's the bond like within the team and how do you think this has helped team chemistry?
"We're a team first and foremost. I'm not sure you could say the same for the lot on the other side of the alley and as we all know, bowling is a team game. You can see the bond within the team, it's plain for everyone to see. Playing together each week, going through the ups and downs together is what has got us there. You can see that the Riders enjoyed the ups but do they know how to react during the downs? Based on last week, I'm not sure they do."
3. The rest of the team playing order seems to change each fixture but you always lead the boys out on the lanes - what's it like carrying the weight of that first ball and do you think this consistency helped catapult Pinter in the last fixture?
"It's important for the boys to feel comfortable when they go out and throw their first ball. Taking the first roll gets the game going and eases everyone else in. The first ball sends a message as well. If you look at the first ball of the second frame last round, it was a strike, it rocked the Riders, put them on the back foot and we went on to absolutely dominate them from there."
So there you have it - an exclusive insight into the Pinter Milan mindset. Whilst they remain completely focused on the uphill battle in front of them, us neutrals are counting down the days for the season finale.
